Medical Emergency
You need to assess each situation to ensure that
the patient gets attention quickly. Even though you might be next door to the hospital,
it is sometimes better to call 911 for emergency response rather than to carry
the patent into the emergency room. Moving the patient could be dangerous to
the patient. If a patient is brought into the emergency room in an ambulance
then they will be seen immediately. Unless the patient has an immediate threat
to life, “Walk-ins” may not be seen for sometime, especially when the emergency
room is busy.
Power Lines down, Gas Leak or Water Main break
The emergency dispatcher will be able to coordinate the services that are needed, including directly police to cordon off the area.
Sidewalks and Snow Removal

If ice is not removed from sidewalks around the hospital or in front of any properties owned by Valley, experience has shown that calling the police is best way to get the hospital to remove these hazards.
The hospital would like to avoid involving the police and for people to call the WARMLINE. However, the hospital does not have compressive, transparent and effective response procedures and the only recourse is to call the police. If the police are called they will write-up and incident report that can be reviewed by the Village Manager or Council.
Medical Waste (Needles, bandages, gloves etc)
Neighbors around the hospital have periodically reported medical waste has appeared in their gardens. It is best NOT to touch items that might constitute a bio hazard – especially if they contain “SHARPS” (syringes and needles).
If you find medical waste, the suggested action steps are:
1. Cover it over with a crate or overturn gauge bin to stop young children or pets disturbing it.
2. Call the Ridgewood Police on 201-652-3900. They have emergency staff trained to assess the situation and can dispose of items appropriately.
Calling the police will generate a incident report that can be referenced by the Village Manager. It can also be helpful to take a photo of the items and record date, then send the details to helpdesk@stopvalley.com.
Noise (out of work Hours)
Like all non-residential operations in the Village, Valley Hospital is bound by ordinances that prevent it from causing a noise nuisance to its neighbors.
It is important that all the neighbors look out for each other. If you believe that Valley Hospital is acting outside of what is allowed, PLEASE CONTACT THE RIDGEWOOD POLICE IMMEDIATELY on their non-emergency number (201-652-3900). State your name, your address, phone number and that you are requesting that the Hospital be stopped from breaking Village ordinance 222. THIS IS YOUR RIGHT! Please also send an email to Helpdesk@stopvalley.com to let us know the details. By making a police complaint for each incident, you let the Council know the Hospital’s (and it’s contractors) disrespect for the rules
